Gary Hoggan, M.D.
Denver Psychiatrist
My Practice
I am a board certified psychiatrist practicing in Denver, Colorado since 2007. My office is located in the Cherry Creek area. In addition to standard office appointments, I also offer video conferencing as an option for clients if appropriate.

Areas of Expertise
I treat a wide range of mental health issues for clients ages 18 and up. This typically includes symptoms of anxiety or depression negatively impacting relationships, work, or school. Additionally, I have speciality areas of expertise in difficult-to-treat anxiety and depression, ADHD, trauma-related symptoms, and bipolar disorder.

Treatment
Treatment consists of an initial comprehensive diagnostic evaluation to identify treatment priorities and establish targeted interventions. As a psychiatrist, treatment options include psychiatric medication and/or psychotherapy. I see my job as providing education about the most evidence-based, effective treatment options in order to select the best fit for each individual patient.
About Me

I have lived in Colorado most of my life. All of my medical and psychiatric training took place at the University of Colorado. I graduated from the CU School of Medicine, where I was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honors Society for academic achievement.
Before opening my private practice, I completed a 4-year psychiatric residency at the University of Colorado.

In addition to private practice, I work for the Department of Veterans Affairs specializing in the treatment of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and American Indian Telehealth. Since 2007, I have also served as a Clinical Instructor for the University of Colorado Department of Psychiatry where I supervise psychiatry residents and teach courses about evidenced-based medications and therapy for anxiety disorders.
Psychiatric Services
Getting Started
Treatment begins with a 90-minute evaluation to develop a comprehensive treatment plan to address psychiatric symptoms as well as any current contributing life or relationship stressors.  I believe that patient education is the most important step in any effective treatment plan.  By better understanding the emotional, cognitive, or behavioral symptoms that are disrupting one's life, we can choose the most appropriate interventions.
Psychotherapy Versus Medication
Clients often wonder which approach is best for their symptoms - therapy, medication, or both? In many cases, there are well-studied, proven types of psychotherapy that are as effective or superior to medication, while in other situations, psychiatric medication is clearly indicated.  My role is to help educate clients and navigate the available treatment options to help select the most appropriate option for their unique circumstances.
Telehealth Options
I offer both in-office and video conferencing appointments for psychiatric treatment.  While face-to-face treatment is generally preferred, many clients have obstacles that interfere with attending in-person sessions.  Video conferencing sessions are conducted through a secure, encrypted platform.
Scheduling, Rates, and Insurance
How do I schedule an initial appointment?
For scheduling, please call my office at 303-756-1374.  I will return your call to discuss your reasons for seeking treatment and answer any questions you might have before scheduling.
Will my insurance cover my visit?
Most of my clients use their health insurance for a partial reimbursement for the cost of treatment.  However, I am not an in-network provider with any insurance plans.  This means that fees for treatment are paid directly to my practice, and the amount eligible for reimbursement depends entirely on an individual's health insurance plan.  I will help facilitate reimbursement by providing patients with a billing statement with all the necessary information needed for patients to seek out-of-network reimbursement from their insurance providers.  I recommend that clients planning to utilize their health issuance benefits contact their insurance provider to determine if they are eligible for reimbursement prior to scheduling.
What is the cost of treatment?
Below are my current rates:
-
Initial appointment (90 minutes) - $550
-
Medication management visit (25 minutes) - $225
-
Psychotherapy +/- medication (45 minutes) - $300
